BRIGHT.INTERIORS Ravishing Rattan: IKEA Stockholm 2017 I’m wholeheartedly dedicated to being an IKEA geek. Like, so much so that I bought three books about the company and their design history to read when I was in the store last week. Remember this infographic I shared with unexpected IKEA stats back in 2013? And then there was the time I went behind the scenes of the IKEA catalog photo studio, too. Fascinating! Many may turn their nose up at the Swedish megastore but I’ve long championed the store. I appreciate how my relationship with the brand and it’s furniture has endured through the various stages of my life to date. Sure, I look back on the tiny bookcases and chests of drawers I bought for my university bedroom knowing I would never buy those pieces now. Yet, they served the exact purpose I needed back then. Since then, I’ve gone onto include many pieces of IKEA furniture in my various apartments, both in London and New York City, and they’ve always served me well. Not only that, but they often are the pieces that garner the most compliments and visitors are shocked to discover that they are from IKEA. I think it’s a common misconception that they only carry Billy bookcases (although I won’t hear a bad word said about those, either – have you seen how awesome they can look when turned into

Rattan armchairs for unique elegance Our range of rattan armchairs add a touch of the exotic, and are perfect for the conservatory. And they come in a range of styles and colors, from the white patterned FINNTORP design to the black STORSELE high-back chair. Some of them are even stackable, like the AGEN wicker armchair, which can save a great deal of space. For those who like things a bit different, you’ve got to check out our KARLSKRONA lounger or PS GULLHOLMEN rocking chair. And talk about original, every single one of our rattan chairs is handmade, so you’ll always have a unique product. Rattan armchairs: a practical alternative You might think that a wicker armchair can be a bit difficult to look after. The truth is that they can all be cleaned with a damp cloth, so you can take them out to the conservatory or a covered patio in the summer, give them a quick wipe, and have them looking as good as new in winter. And adding a cushion or headrest will make your rattan armchairs even more stylish and comfortable – a nice exotic touch to your living room. We have cushions that are 100% cotton, easy to clean, and reversible for extra convenience.

Reply Louisa April 10, 2017 at 1:32 pm Wow – love the rattan! With all the tropical and botanical wallpapers and murals that have been on trend in the last 12 months or so, these fit right in. Typical Ikea to get bang on point. Can’t wait to see them in store – the armchair looks quite delicate. Really like the high back with the short legs tho. And that deep blue……..don’t get me started!

I've had the same experience with our white Ektorp and Ikea dressers. I love the white slipcovers, but they always have something on them. I've been looking at the tan and gray slipcovers also, but I just love the white. So I bleach on! If it makes you feel better the Ektorp covers are a pain to get on also. My bedroom dressers were a hack and we're pretty easy on them, but they definitely won't last forever. That's okay though since I lived with master bedroom furniture I didn't like for years just because it was so expensive. My boys Ikea dressers are really falling apart and they are only a year old. They just can't handle little boys. I'm replacing my older son's right now with PB Kids. I'm hoping we'll have better luck! Great post!

First, though let me write a little bit about IKEA pieces in general and why we purchase them. Basically for us, it more often than not comes down to budget. We often mix in more affordable pieces (for instance in our living room the sofa is from IKEA and the chairs are from TJMaxx) with some other pieces (like the RH mirror and sconces that are in that same room). I think mixing and matching helps give a room a more layered look instead of having it feel like everything is all from the same store.

This piece in my opinion is probably the nicest piece of IKEA furniture (well, that we own anyway). It is extremely heavy and feels like a much higher end piece in my opinion than IKEA. We have one in our Dear Lillie office up in NH and I recently got one for our guest room/home office. I would most definitely buy it again (in fact, I did – haha! We bought the Dear Lillie one about a year and a half ago and just recently bought the one for our house) and I would most definitely recommend it.

Ana bought these dining chairs from One Kings Lane and topped them with soft Tejn faux sheepskins from Ikea. The relaxed dining area reflects the couple’s unpretentious, laid-back style. Table: Norden, Ikea.

If Ikea had asked us, we’d have pointed out that the stylish Jassa pieces deserve a permanent spot in Ikea’s otherwise limited collection of woven furniture. Inspired by designs from Vietnam and Indonesia, the long-awaited Jassa line also includes colorful patterned pillows and ceramics. But the pieces we’d most like to buy to furnish our indoor-outdoor rooms are the woven chairs, chaises, tables, and baskets. Get them while they last:

MonteeJuly 26, 2014 at 11:29 AMThanks so much for this post. I have bought a few items from IKEA, but no furnishings yet because I wasn't really sure how their furniture holds up. There is a winged chair that has caught my eye (Strandmon Wing Chair) that would go great in a room I am still trying to finish. I am looking at it in an orange that would add a nice pop of color to the room. Love how your new home has evolved! Great job!ReplyDelete
